Wizard in the Weeds

DESCRIPTION
This project finished development in my third year of the Game Design program. Starting development in the Fall of 2022, the team decided to create a game that would deliver a message that could be relatable and applicable to our peers. Hence, we began developing a simulator game focused on educating players on invasive weeds in our local area and have players remove these plants in a satisfying manner. I was tasked with creating the art assets which would visually match the outsourced asset packs while also being able to stand out for gameplay purposes.

This game just finished development in the middle of Spring 2023 and was a great learning experience regarding development practices and workflows. This was the first project that I have worked on which utilized a GDC to record and track design decisions prior to production. There were also multiple devlogs created to update my peers and prof. on game development, which was also a good practice for me to think retrospectively. I hope to take this experience forward and apply my lessons learned onto future projects which will hopefully aid in making even greater games and experiences in the years to come.

Design

To showcase some of the design thinking that went into the concepting and pre-production phases of this project, as well as re-evaluating our goals and re-establishing the team's understanding of the design during production, pictures and documents will be shared showcasing team exercises that we completed to better understand what kind of game we were setting out to create.
